Driven by a vision to provide high-caliber auditing services to non-profit and governmental entities, Dave founded Maher Duessel in 1989 (along with Founding Partner John Maher). Since then, he has been instrumental in shaping the firm’s commitment to excellence and service. Dave serves as Partner on audit engagements for a diverse range of public sector clients. On the government side his clients include counties, state agencies, municipalities, school districts, and authorities. His non-profit clients include human service agencies, community development organizations, religious entities, and private schools. His extensive knowledge in Single Audit compliance positions him as a trusted advisor in the industry. Several of Dave's relationships with his clients date back to when the firm was founded, a testament to the strong and steady guidance he has offered to them over the years. Dave also leads Maher Duessel's bond verification, debt services, and arbitrage practice. He has directed several bond verification and arbitrage rebate calculation engagements over the years for state agencies, counties, municipal authorities, and school districts.
Outside of his role in client service, Dave has been involved in national and state level accounting committees. For several years, he has served as a Reviewer on the Popular Report Review Committee for the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The GFOA founded this committee to encourage state and local governments to extract information from their Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports to be readily accessible and easily understandable to the general public. With his ability to take complicated information and communicate difficult concepts in a clear and concise manner, Dave is an ideal fit for this Committee. Dave also values volunteering his time to non-profits as well. For several years, he was a Board Member and Treasurer for Verland, a human service agency supporting individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities.
