The federal government has announced that it is transitioning its Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) to a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) system. This transition will be effective April 4, 2022, and the UEI numbers will be created on the System of Award Management (SAM) website. The UEI will be used within SAM.gov and other government award and financial systems to identify a unique entity. The UEI number will be mandatory for all financial submissions beginning with fiscal year end 3/31/2022.
If you already have an active or expired registration, your UEI has already been set up, and you do not need to take action. If you would like to view your organization’s new UEI, simply log into SAM and in your workspace (third option in the top right hand menu), select the numbered bubble above ‘Active’ in the Entity Management widget. You should then see your record(s) appear, and the UEI number(s) appear on the left side. If you are a prime awardee and need your sub awardee’s UEI, use this link for instructions on how to search for another entity’s identifier. If your organization hasn’t used a DUNS number before, you will need to register for your UEI prior to April 4th here.
